Banyana Banyana stalwart, Noko Matlou, plans to use her experience of playing for SD Eibar in Spain to help develop future South African women national team players.

The 35-year-old has held onto her dreams of playing on the international stage and has been rewarded for her efforts, signing her first professional deal.

“I’m so excited!” Matlou revealed to gsport.

“I always motivate myself when I see players like Marta from Brazil, who is 34-years-old and is still playing at a high level.

“I have signed for one season and I’m looking forward to adapting and fighting for my position and help the team to do well.”

In a previous interview with gsport, the first South African, male or female, to be crowned CAF African Footballer of the Year, spoke of her intentions to develop her game and will have the opportunity to fulfil her desire.

As coach of an U17 team in Limpopo, Matlou also hopes to develop future stars and with the international experience that she will be exposed to, one can foresee a brighter future for the national women’s team.

She believes that South Africa is blessed with talented athletes and being part of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup opened doors for many of the women’s team players to earn overseas contracts this year.

“We can compete and the World Cup was an eye opener to most of the European teams,” she concluded.
