Zimbabwean jockey, O’Meara Rusike clinched a spectacular victory in the inaugural OKAPI Ladies International race at the L’Ormarins King’s Plate in Cape Town on Saturday, 07 January 2023.
Rusike won over 1200m aboard Pacific Green and had previously participated in the Magnolia Cup in the UK, where she made history as the first African woman to take part in the race.
The 24-year-old sat on her very first horse at the age of 18 after she joined the Zimbabwean Jockey Academy while she was in high school.
While she’s still very much part of the Ralph Beckett Racing, she has ambitions of being an assistant trainer in the US.
