PMB’s 3rd Swift Half-Marathon

On 15 October 1,000 runners and walkers are expected to be poised on the start line at Hulett Aluminium Campsdrift for the third annual Swift Half Marathon organised by the Rotary Club of Pietermaritzburg, and hosted by the Hulett Aluminium Athletics Club.

Increased prize money to the tune of R12, 800 is at stake for athletes entering the 21,1 kilometre half marathon run, the 10km walk, or the more social option of the 5 kilometre fun run/walk.

Runners and walkers of all ability are invited to enter this event, which is one of only a few races in the country that pass through a township.

Organisers are hoping to attract as many local runners and walkers from the Edendale area as possible to take part.

Members of the public interested in entering can come to registration on the afternoon of 14 October from 14h00 to 16h00; alternatively entries will be accepted on the morning of the 15th from 05h00, with the starter’s gun sounding at 06h00.

Competitors can look forward to a scenic route through the Edendale Valley and the bustling township, which will add to the already festive atmosphere.

The Rotary Club-organised event not only provides a platform for top runners to test their mettle against one another, the money raised from the event will be used to assist the needy in the local community through various Rotary initiatives.

he entry fee is R30 for the 21,1 kilometre run or the 10 kilometre walk and competitors need to be 15 years of age or older; T-shirts will be awarded to all athletes that complete the race in either of these divisions.

It only costs R15 to take part in the 5 km fun run/walk, and entrants can be as young as nine; and medals will be awarded to all participants that successfully complete the race.

Secure parking and tog-bag facilities will be available on the Hulett Aluminium grounds.

Fully stocked refreshment stations will be available along the route, as well as at the finish to keep runners hydrated.

A lucky draw will be held during the prize-giving and winners need to be present to claim their prizes.

The Swift Half Marathon is sponsored by Hulett Aluminium. Coke, Powerade and City Printing Works have come to the party to show their support of the event which is also backed by the Pietermaritzburg Municipality.

For any additional information interested athletes can contact Jenny Teichmann on her cell 084 446 6908 or email [email protected].
