Proteas Women’s star batter Tazmin Brits is the first overseas international player to represent the South East Stars, on a short-term contract.

The occasional wicketkeeper and one of SA’s most prolific players during the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup, will feature for the London and South East Region side for four Rachel Heyhoe-Flint Trophy games next month.

Emma Calvert, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket is excited to have a player of Brits’ calibre: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Tazmin to our setup. She’s a seasoned international cricketer, who has consistently shown her abilities on the biggest of stages for South Africa.

“As we look to build on our encouraging start in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy, Tazmin will bring a wealth of experience as well as more depth and quality to our batting lineup.

“We are confident that she will prove to be a valuable addition to the Stars.”

Brits will join them in the game against Northern Diamonds on the 2nd of July. She plays again on the 11th versus the Sunrisers and lastly on 15 July where the Stars take on The Blaze.

Brits said: “I am thrilled to join the South East Stars and am really looking forward to playing in English conditions for the first time in my cricket career.

“The Stars are an outstanding team, they have played impressive 50-over cricket, and I hope that I will be able to help the team in their aim to qualify for the finals.

“I’m also looking forward to working with Johann and his team of coaches as well as playing with and learning from the many talented players who represent the Stars.”

With the Stars missing a number of England players, Brits adds much needed experience as the South East Stars currently sit second on the standings, with three wins and two defeats from five matches.

Most recently Brits scooped top honours at the prestigious Garden Route Badgers Annual Awards Ceremony walking away with the Badgers Women’s player of the Season award.
