Western Province continued their stranglehold on the 2007 PWC Kaplan Cup Inter-Provincial Squash Championships, when they inflicted a 17-6 win on Easterns in the fourth round of the competition, being played in Port Elizabeth.
South Africa’s number 1 player Tenille Swart lost her first match when she could find no answers for the all-round play of Easterns number 1, Annelize Naude of the Netherlands, ranked 17 in the world.
Western Province’s captain Karen van der Westhuizen surprised by edging through 3-2 against Angie Clifton-Parks, when Siyoli Lusaseni, Milnay Louw and Sacha West had already sealed victory for Province by defeating Nicola Helwick, Lindy Jordaan and Susan Tricker.
Eastern Province look set to retain their third position on the log after easily accounting for Gauteng 17-4, who were considerably weakened by the loss of Claire Nitch to injury.
Gauteng could only notch one victory when Diana Argyle beat Juanette Le Roux in straight games, while Lizelle van Niekerk, Jacqui Trevarthen, Kierryn Keeton and Anlen Murray had runaway wins for the home side.
Seeded-second Northerns registered their only win of the week when they accounted for the hapless KwaZulu-Natal side 20-4.
In the B section, Northerns B and Eastern Province B won their crossover playoffs, defeating Eastern Province B and Eastern Province C respectively to contest the final.
