Netherlands’ Puck Pieterse stormed to victory, grabbing her first elite World Cup as part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Nove Mesto on Sunday, 14 May 2023.
The Dutch star powered to her debut win after opening up in the final lap to beat World Champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot to win the elite women’s cross country race in a time of 01:23:01.
French Ferrand-Prevot finished in second place with a time of 01:23:06, and she was followed by Loana Lecomte – also from France, in third place, in a time of 01:23:12.
“I don’t know what happened. Normally my start is really good, but everyone was going so fast I thought I’d blown up. It looked like the others did too though. Pauline and I kept swapping places, then after a few laps Evie had a flat or something. All of a sudden, I was racing at the front and I didn’t know what to do so I just tried to keep calm and it worked out,” said Pieterse after her performance.
