Global Woman in Sport nominee, Rabi Mpete, has walked away as the first ever Miss Congeniality winner following her unconditional support for Momentum gsport Awards finalists even after she missed the cut in a tense battle for a place in the shortlist.
Mpete, who works at the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee as High Performance Coordinator, was chosen as the social media competition winner after consistently using her voice to shout for finalists vying to be part of the Class of 2020.
Mpete was invited to the #gsport15 top secret and confidential mission to unearth new role models to “work with the gsport team” where she found out from Founder Kass Naidoo the real reason she was there was so she could be honoured.
“I loved how consistent Rabi was in using her voice to encourage the public to support her favourites. It is not easy to remain upbeat when you miss out and I thought her humility and sincerity were two stand out qualities.” – gsport Founder, Kass Naidoo
“We introduced the Miss Congeniality social media competition to encourage nominees who fell out of reckoning at the shortlisting stage to stay in the game by shouting for their favourite women in sport.
“I loved how consistent Rabi was in using her voice to encourage the public to support her favourites. It is not easy to remain upbeat when you miss out and I thought her humility and sincerity were two stand out qualities which saw her crowned Miss Congeniality for 2020.”
Mpete said: “I would like to thank Kass, gsport, Momentum and all the women in sport who came before me for making it normal to celebrate every achievement and every win.
“Winning Miss Congeniality at this year’s #gsport15 was a special honour for me.” – SASCOS High Performance Coordinator, Rabi Mpete
“I will always celebrate women in sport, and I will always be ready to shout from the mountain tops how great the women in sport,” Mpete continued.
“Winning Miss Congeniality at this year’s #gsport15 was a special honour for me.
“I’ve always looked at how gsport has been advocating for women in sport and didn’t wait for someone to tell our stories as women in sport but rather started a platform for all women in sport to share their stories and #SheOwnsHerSuccess,” she ended.
