South African jockey, Rachel Venniker, is continuing to prove her abilities in the sport after recording her 42nd race victory at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Monday, 31 January 2022.
The 20-year-old is paving the way for future female jockeys in the country as she reveals that she is used to competing against men.
“Male or female it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve grown up racing with boys and they treat me like one of them,” she told gsport.
“I am happy with how things are going and now I am focusing on keeping my head up and continuing to work hard in the process also improving my racing skills.”
While results are counted on the track, competition for jockeys is beyond race day and it takes recognition to get the chances Venniker has earned. For now these doors are wide open as her name is the first to be mentioned by trainers and owners looking for that winning edge.
