South Africa’s Dr. Miriam Sinclair has returned home from the Czech Republic having placed second overall to win the silver medal in the World Masters Powerlifting Championships (40-49 yrs) in the under-52kg bodyweight class.

Sanctioned by the International Powerlifting Federation, the 16th World Masters Powerlifting Championships took place in Ostrava between 2 and 6 October, and a total of 275 lifters from 25 countries, including 66 women, took part in the competition.

Weighing in the lightest among the championship’s finalists at 49.1kg,  Sinclair lifted a total of 332.5 kg to win a bronze medal in the squat (120 kg lifted), place fourth in the bench press with a lift of 62.5kg, and deadlifted 150kg to earn a silver medal.

Sinclair’s deadlift also qualifies as a new South African record. More information and results may be viewed on the official International Powerlifting Federation website.
