After 18 years of dedicated work advancing women’s sport, Kass Naidoo, South Africa’s first female cricket commentator and founder of gsport, is now focused on fostering support from young men in sport and encouraging them to champion women’s sport in return.
In an inspiring fireside chat at Michaelhouse, one of the top private all-boys schools in the KZN Midlands, Naidoo discussed the evolution of gsport and its mission to elevate women’s sport to a fully professional level. “For 18 years, we have almost exclusively addressed girls and women. Now, it’s time to include boys and men in the conversation,” she stated.
A notable highlight was the students adapting their historic school war cry to include girls, symbolising support for a future where both genders can work together seamlessly to advance sport.
gsport’s commitment to allyship began in October 2006, acknowledging the crucial role of men in women’s sport. Since 2007, men have been celebrated on the Momentum gsport Awards stage, and the popular #BestMan feature has spotlighted the selfless contributions of many volunteers.
Naidoo adds, “The future feels united, built on 18 years of dedicated efforts to uplift women’s sport. I am excited about this new chapter as we reimagine gsport and its role in advancing sport in South Africa.”
gsport remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing the visibility of women’s sport and securing greater corporate support for our sportswomen.
