Romaney Pinnock Takes the Lead: A Bright Future Ahead for Women’s Football in South Africa

In a significant move, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has appointed Ms Romaney Pinnock as the Head of Women’s Football, instilling a sense of hope and optimism for the future of football in the country. 

With her impressive credentials and vast experience, coupled with the backing of various stakeholders, Ms Pinnock’s appointment promises to propel women’s football to new heights.

Pinnock, who brings with her more than a decade of experience as a management consultant, is also the Founding Director of the esteemed Badgers Football Academy in Cape Town. Her remarkable journey includes accolades such as a FIFA Master in the Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, an MSc with a specialisation in Ecotoxicology from the University of Siena, and a Medical Honours and BSc in Genetics from the University of Cape Town.

Expressing her delight at joining the Association, Pinnock conveyed her excitement about the challenge of raising women’s football to the level it deserves.

“We have a long way to go in raising women’s football to the level it deserves to be in this country. This task will be hard, but I am excited by the challenge,” she told safa.net 

She also expressed gratitude for the privilege of contributing to the development of women’s football, highlighting the importance of enabling more girls and women to play in safe and supportive environments.

With the support of SAFA, a broad range of stakeholders, sponsors, and the existing trailblazers in women’s football, Pinnock is confident that they can create a lasting impact on the women’s game. 

“Having a hand in ensuring that more girls and women can play football in safe and supportive environments is such a privilege, and I look forward to what lies ahead,” she added.

The appointment of Pinnock and her responsibilities as the Head of Women’s Football mark a new era for the sport in South Africa.
