The Ommiedraai Friends Athletic Club (Kenilworth) is counting down the days to the 2nd annual Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok that will take place at the Greenpoint A Track on Sunday, 23 April 2017.
“We started the new year with a fun campaign that promoted both a healthy lifestyle and weight loss while encouraging members to attend our training sessions,” says Aminah Shabodien of the Ommiedraai Friends Athletic Club.
“We’ve been holding weekly weigh-inns. The goal is to lose as much weight as possible, in a healthy controlled manner that is based on the foundation of healthy eating and exercise.
“The competition has been running since January and attracted 61 entrants. Even runners who did not need to lose weight joined in on the action. Training sessions became more fun and attendance was amazing.
“We will announce the winner this coming Wednesday,” continues Shabodien. “The winner will receive an entry into the Cell C Day Of Races in Cape Town, however, irrespective of who wins our club will definitely be out in full force at this event.
“The Cell C Day Of Races is an amazing race with a terrific vibe. It’s an event for everyone including beginners. Most runners start off with a 5km race and because this 5km run is so much fun, it will only encourage them to do more races.”

The Cell C Day Of Races allows entrants to choose the start wave the suits them best. Instead of going for gold, runners are encouraged to beat their Personal Best finishing times, be social, take photographs and videos at designated points on route, share it to the event’s social media platforms and stand a chance to win magnificent prizes.
