Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee successfully hosted a two-day Women and Sport Conference dubbed “Smart Women-Smart Sport” at the Centre d’Acceuil Bonne Esperance.

The event included 33 women from national sports federations where the Rwanda Olympians Association and Sports Centres of Excellence in schools programme was aimed at re-evaluating women in the sports sector and coming up with recommendations that would reinforce gender equality in the industry.

Several high-level sports administrators delivered different presentations ranging from Prevention of Harassment Abuse in Sports and Mental Health which was presented by Vice President of Cycling Rwanda, Agnes Marie Mukazibera, Gertrude Kubwimana the technical director of Rwanda Volleyball touched on talent detection.

Sports expert E’gairma Hermine touched on an important key driver of menstruation and athlete’s performance while Nutritionist, Mukayumba Anastasie talked about sports nutrition.

The President of Rwanda Olympic Medical and Anti-Doping Commission Dr Nuhu Assuman and Sandrine Murangwa made an eye-opening presentation on sports medicine.

Dr Patrick Rwagatare touched on sports and mental health before Coach Esperance Mukaneza, FIFA Referee Sandrine and sports journalist Ariane Uwamahoro wrapped off the conference.
