SA Gymnastics honoured top performers in each discipline and coaches who played a key role in developing talent in South Africa at the federation’s annual sport awards ceremony.
Ilse Pelser walked away with two accolades, for Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and Coach and Manager Award, while Olympian Caitlin Rooskrantz was awarded the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics accolade.
Shannon Gardiner picked up the Rhythmic Gymnastics Award, while the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics trophy went to Naveen Daries.
President of Gymnastics South Africa, Donny Jurgens, extended his heartfelt congratulations saying, “The past two years have been very challenging. International competitions and events were rescheduled and, in many cases, cancelled. The opportunities to compete on the international stage were limited due to many health restrictions. Yet, our gymnasts showed incredible determination and inspired us with their results. We thank you.”
For the first time since 2004, South Africa was represented in Women’s Gymnastics at the Olympic Games where Rooskrantz and Daries competed in the Women’s Artistic competition.
