The South African under 20 women team (Basetsana) is back in the country following a successful camp in Germany where they played two matches, against hosts Germany and the Netherlands.
Basetsana held Germany to a one-all draw and lost 2-0 to the Netherlands in their backyard. The camp will retreat back to the High Performance Centre in Pretoria to start preparing for next year’s World Cup qualifiers.
Basetsana team Manager Fran Hilton-Smith remained in Europe to attend the 9th UEFA Elite Youth coaches workshop in Cannes, France.
As a FIFA/CAF Instructor, Hilton-Smith was appointed by CAF along with Belhassen Malousse (Tunisia, Technical Director of the Emirates) and Fatty Nosseir (CAF Instructor) to participate at the workshop attended by 200 delegates from around the world.
Coaching greats like Gerard Houllier (French Technical director, and former Liverpool coach), UEFA Technical director Andy Roxburgh and Jean Paul Brigger (FIFA Technical director) presented topics on the way forward for youth development and Elite Football academies.
“This will stand me in good stead for our women’s upcoming U20 and U17 World Cup Qualifiers next year,” said Hilton-Smith, “As well as giving direction in perfecting our Girls Youth Academy, at the HPC in Pretoria.
“I will also be bringing back updated information for our local youth coaches at all levels. I thank CAF and SAFA for giving me this invaluable opportunity,” said Hilton-Smith.
