Sasha Mongeli emerged as the winner of the 2022 Zone 4.4 Individual Chess Championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Sunday, 8 May 2022.
The Kenyan international secured a resounding victory in the 18-player women’s category with a brilliant performance.
Mongeli accumulated nine points to be crowned as the zonal champion without suffering a defeat.
Ethiopia’s Abate Lidet Haile finished second with 7.5 points and was closely followed by her compatriot Melake Aster Bantiwala.
The tournament was played in nine rounds, swiss system and acted as a qualifier for the 5th Sharjah Chess Masters and Sharjah Chess Challenger.
