On Friday, 2 August, 2019, South Africa’s swimming sensation, Tatjana Schoenmaker began Women’s Month on a high note after claiming number one position in the 200m breaststroke final at the FINA Swimming World Cup in Tokyo.
Schoenmaker clocked a time of 2:22.35 to reach the finishing line in the same capital where she will be competing at next year’s Olympic Games, and to add the cherry on top of the cake, the Tuks swimmer made an impressive new World Record, 0.52 seconds faster than the previous holder’s – Viktoria Gunes’ time which was back in 2015.
The South African, who was a silver medallist at the recent World Championships‚ was nearly two seconds faster than runner-up, Reona Aoki of Japan.
Tomorrow, Saturday, 2 August, 2019, Schoenmaker will be back in the pool as she will be competing for the 100m breaststroke medal at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Centre.
