It’s been a busy two weeks of voting at the 2019 gsport Voting Hall, with over 8,000 votes counted in favour of the 54 #gsport14 Finalists.
The favourite voting category in 2019 is the Woman in Television Award, where a thousand plus votes have indicated a strong supporter interest in this year’s Finalists.
No other Award category has clocked a thousand votes in 2019, but it comes as no surprise that the Athlete of the Year Award category is the second most popular voting destination, featuring a powerful trio in Thembi Kgatlana, Gerda Steyn and Caster Semenya.
School Sports Star Award and Woman in Radio have also garnered strong support, each gaining more than 800 votes per category this year.
Cloaked Voting Commences at 6pm This Evening
Now we’re heading to the final seven days of voting for this year’s gsport Awards Finalists, and as is regular practice each year, the results of votes in each individual category will no longer be visible.
From 6 pm tonight – and for the final 186 hours of voting remaining this year ending at 6pm on Friday 9 August – National Women’s Day in South Africa, who is reaching ahead and who is falling behind will be a secret that gsport carries until the night of unveiling winners, in Johannesburg, on Saturday, 31 August, 2019.
This measure is implemented to ensure that the cat is not out of the bag, particularly for the winner of the Public Choice Award – ahead of the winners being unveiled on the Awards night.
Voting remains open for a final seven days, until 6pm on Friday, 9 August. Winners will be unveiled at the annual gsport Awards, in Johannesburg on Friday, 31 August.
The Public Vote counts for 20% in the final reckoning of the 2019 gsport Awards campaign, after the Elite Panel of Judges cast their votes earlier in the process, their audited face-to-face votes also having established the finalists in each Awards category.
