South Africa’s 800m gold medallist, Caster Semenya has officially signed for SASOL League outfit, JVW Football Club, owned by Banyana Banyana captain, Janine Van Wyk.
Semenya’s already illustrious career has seen her dominate the athletics track and will now take up the challenge of competing on the football field. It has been said that the South African has always had a love for football and played the sport while she was still at school.
Semenya Would Be Able to Make Her Debut in 2020
Unfortunately, due to the transfer window being closed for 2019, Semenya would not be able to play competitively until 2020 where she will be able to make her debut. In the meantime, she will continue to train with the team that consists of high-profile players who are registered with the club such as; Mamello Makhabane, Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Amanda Dlamini.
At present, the JVW team have 11 matches left to play and stand a good chance of claiming top spot, as the SASOL League play-offs which will see the top two teams that reach the final to face off in Gauteng for promotion to the SAFA Women’s National League in 2020.
