Series starts with ODI Win

The South African women’s cricket team have beaten Pakistan by 98 runs in the first one day international in Laudium.

South Africa posted 225/7 after winning the toss and electing to bat. Their competitive total was thanks largely to an unbeaten 79 from vice captain, Johmari Logtenberg.

Captain Cri-Zelda Brits got the second highest score, chipping in with 39.

Quanita Jalil picked up 3/51 in nine overs while Sajjida Shah had impressive figures of 2/32 from 10 overs.

In reply, Pakistan’s run chase never really got going, eventually finishing on 127/8 in their 50 overs. Captain Urooj Mumtaz was Pakistan’s top scorer with 29.

Ashlyn Kilowan was South Africa’s most successful bowler, picking up 3/23 in 10 overs.

Pakistan are currently ranked 10th on the International Cricket Council’s Women’s world rankings, three places below South Africa (7).

The second ODI takes place at Harlequins Oval in Pretoria on Monday, 22 January.
