American Sherri Steinhauer leads the field going into the final round of the Weetabix Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes after a third round 66.
The two-time winner started the tournament slowly with rounds of 73 and 70, before switching on the magic with a superb 6-under par 66 on day 3, to put her in a strong position to win this prestigious event for a third time.
After leading by three on days 1 and 2, American Juli Inkster posted a disappointing third round 2-over par 74, leaving her joint second 4-under for the tournament with Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa, Swede Sophie Gustafson and England’s Karen Stupples.
World number one, Annika Sorenstam, hasn’t had the best of tournaments. Rounds of 72, 71, and 73 has her seven shots off the lead.
Michelle Wie, who was desperate to win at Royal Lytham, carded a third round level-par 70, and is eleven shots off the pace.
