Simon ready to make History

South Africa’s Ashleigh Simon is just hours away from teeing off in her first golf major at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

The 16-year old golfing sensation will join the world’s top female golfers in action in the Women’s British Open.

Simon will get her first round underway just after 4.15pm (South African time) along with Birdie Kim from Korea, and Karen Weiss from the United States.

Fellow South African, Laurette Maritz is already out on course. Maritz parred the first two holes but then picked up bogies on the 3rd, 4th, and5th. She is currently 3 over par after 5 holes.

American Allison Hanna currently leads the field after an opening round 2 under par 70, which included five birdies.

gsport will bring you regular updates on round one of the Women’s British Open, as we track performances of our leading golfing duo of Laurette Maritz and Ashleigh Simon.
