With six weeks to go before Pretoria’s SPAR Women’s 10 km Challenge at the Tuks Sportsgrounds on August 25, Spring will be in the air for this important women’s sporting event.

For many women in Pretoria, the Challenge has become an important social occasion, and a great way of marking the start of spring, and organisers are promising much that can be won, just by entering the Challenge.

In addition to the generous prize money on offer to the top runners, the biggest prize is a lucky draw for a year’s worth of groceries, worth R12 000 – a prize anyone would relish.

Everyone who enters the race has an equal chance of winning this wonderful prize. The Challenge is known for its very sociable nature, which women chatting to strangers from all walks of life, and making new friends as they go along.

Because of the friendly nature of the race, it is fitting that one of the most popular prizes should be the Treat a Friend competition.

All you have to do is to persuade a friend to take part in the race, and then put both your names in the Treat a Friend box on race day, and you both stand a chance of winning a wonderful day at the Mangwanani Spa near Hartbeespoort Dam.

The prize, worth R2 000, includes a light breakfast, lunch with delicious desserts, a farewell gift of chocolates and a day of pampering.  There are also two gift vouchers worth R1 500 each up for grabs.

One of the most exciting competitions is the Schools competition, where the school that enters the most runners or walkers wins R5 000 to spend as they see fit.

Apart from the obvious motivation of winning the prize money, the Challenge is also good for school spirit as the girls are doing something together for a common cause.

This competition is open to junior schools as well as  high schools, as girls over the age of nine are eligible to enter the 5km Fun Run. So, in addition to the sheer fun of taking part in the Challenge, think of all you can win!

Entry forms are available from all SPAR, KWIKSPAR and SUPERSPAR stores, or online at the SPAR website, or contact the race office on 011 203 5399.
