Sunday Review: The gsport-TUTMLS Internship Launch As It Happened

This is the first ever internship intake done by gsport. The students selected to be part of this prestigious collaboration come from the CATHSETTA Sport Management program that aims to promote the power of sports and academics.

This launch comes after the new collaboration established by gsport and TUTMLS that will see the partnership running for three years as the initiative aims to raise the profile of women’s sport and women in sport. The launch was also used to commemorate youth month and honour the efforts being made to nurture the next generation.

Day of the Launch

A cold day it is with running around and making sure everything is in order. The team is well on time and can be spotted from a distance with their white t-shirts branded “The future is women’s sport”.

Our MC for the day is lecturer Miss Christa Kgamphe from the TUTMLS who begins the proceedings of the launch. The MLS HOD, Dr Elizma Wannenburg, officially welcomes everyone present on the day with students from the MLS department present in excitement.

Present we also have Ms Simphiwe Dludlu (Head Coach of the SAFA u17 Girls, Bantwana), Ms Sharon Mukhola (CATHSETTA), Dr Pam Serra (TUTMLS) and Kass Naidoo (gsport Founder). These beautiful ladies had a word to say to those present at the TUT Prestige Auditorium through a panel discussion facilitated by none other than the anchor herself, Naidoo, to discuss important topics such as academics, sports, opportunities and internships.

#GoGirls Youth Talk

gsport Ambassador Refiloe Jane gave an inspirational youth talk focusing on the power of sports and academics. Jane took us through the sacrifices that come with being a student-athlete and what it takes to succeed on and off the field. “This is all a process you want to be willing to go through and you should know it is not going to be easy,” Jane’s final words to the students present on the day.

Vote of thanks

“Even though there is so much still left to do, today every joint forces, I am sure that there is a renewed and increased interest,” Dr Serra said. Furthermore, she acknowledged the interns for work well done. The program came to an end with interns unveiled and photographs taken together with dignitaries present. Later on there was a networking session to build future relationships #GoGirls #gsportTUTMLS
