Reigning CAF Women’s Champions League title holders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies beat TP Mazembe 4-0 to progress to the semi-final round of this year’s competition.
On Sunday, 6 November 2022, the Jerry Tshabalala-coached side completed their group stages with a clean sweep of victories from their three encounters.
In the 19th minute of the match, Zanele Nhlapo opened the scoring from the penalty spot after her teammate, Chuene Morifi was brought down in the box.
The opposition were eager to bounce back, but the Brazilians managed to keep them at bay. Five minutes before the halftime break, Lelona Daweti netted her fourth goal of the tournament.
Four minutes after the recess, Sundowns came out guns blazing as Bambanani Mbane’s long cross found Melinda Kgadiete, who did not hesitate as she found the back off the net to secure Sundowns’ third of the match.
In the 89th minute, the South Africans were still pushing forward and were rewarded with a fourth goal when substitute Gabbonelwe Kekana’s netter closed off the encounter.
Sundowns top Group A having scored a total of 11 goals. Mbane was awarded the Woman of the Match award for her stellar performances on the night.
