Sponsorships are hard to come by, especially during Covid-19 times, but Momentum Proteas all-rounder, Suné Luus, has shown that a strong brand presence can attract the right attention, after striking a partnership deal with Falke SA.
She spoke to gsport after sharing an Instagram post about her new deal with the fashion retail organisation, which sees her become a brand ambassador for the company’s technical sports socks.
“I emailed Falke on Instagram, and the media manager emailed me back and said that they would love to have me on the team.”
The current situation with lockdown and sport being put on hold, it has become a difficult period of athletes to attract sponsors, but Luus believes that constant posting on social media allows athletes to keep their brands fresh.
“If you really love a product or a brand you have to speak to the right person and give a great proposal. The proposal seals the deal.” – Momentum Proteas leg-spinner, Suné Luus
“It definitely isn’t easy in lockdown, I guess by still posting good content you show brands that you’re still active and can make a difference.
“If you really love a product or a brand you have to speak to the right person and give a great proposal. The proposal seals the deal. If they feel like you are really interested in the brand and want to help grow it, they will not think twice about having you on board.”
Apart from securing personal deals, the experienced national team player is keeping herself motivated by training and studying for her exams.
“It is quite difficult to stay motivated but seeing everyone on Instagram from different countries still training hard gives me the motivation to stay on track with my fitness and skills.
“As a team, our goal is to become the best team in the world, and definitely win our first World Cup soon.” – Luus looks forward to winning a World Cup trophy with the Momentum Proteas team
“As I am currently busy with exams, I realised that I would like to pursue my studies further and hopefully get accepted to do my Honours in Communication Science.”
When lockdown officially ends and the world goes back to some sort of normality, Luus is looking forward to conquering the international stage with the Momentum Proteas team.
“As a team, our goal is to become the best team in the world, and definitely win our first World Cup soon ☺️,” she ended.
