Team Ready for Pakistan ODI’s

The South African Women’s cricket team has announced three changes to their side just one week before they face Pakistan in a much anticipated five match ODI Series starting next Saturday (20 January) in Pretoria.

Cri-Zelda Brits, the 23-year-old right-handed batsman from North West, will take over the captaincy after Shandre Fritz (captain) sustained a neck injury while diving into a swimming pool last month.

On the field, Fritz will be replaced by Mignon du Preez from Northerns.

Alicia Smith is being rested as she has unfortunately not recovered from illness. She will be replaced by Kirsten Blair from Gauteng and Angelique Taai comes in for Shafeeqa Pillay who failed a fitness test.

Pakistan arrive in the country on Monday and will be based at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre for the duration of their tour.

On Wednesday they will play a SA Invitational XI in a one-day tour match at the Laudium Cricket Oval, Pretoria and will play their first ODI match on Saturday.

They are currently ranked 10th on the International Cricket Council’s Women’s world rankings, three places below South Africa (7) and, under captain Urooj Mumtaz (22), the team will be looking to play nothing less than inspirational cricket.

With the World Cup qualifiers taking place in Pakistan in November this year, both teams will use the forthcoming Series as part of their preparations.
