Griquas, Free State, the Leopards and the Griffons will be determined to build momentum in Section 2 of the SARU Women’s Interprovincial Series on Saturday following solid starts to their campaigns in the last few weeks.
In an action-packed third round, Griquas will meet the Valke at the Nababeep Stadium in Springbok, Free State will host the Griffons at the Old Grey Club in Bloemfontein, the Leopards will line up against the Limpopo Blue Bulls at the Seshogo Stadium in Polokwane and Boland will battle it out with the Golden Lions at the Boland Stadium in Wellington.
Griquas will enter their clash against the Valke as favourites with momentum and confidence on their side, after their victory against the Limpopo Blue Bulls. Also counting in their favour is that fact that the clash will mark the Valke’s opening match of the season, meaning they have yet to find their rhythm.
The clash between Free State and the Griffons, meanwhile, is expected to be tight – both teams come off morale-boosting victories.
But with the Free State boasting home ground advantage, and a team that has proved that they could be a force to be reckoned with after winning three of their four matches last season and thrashing the Golden Lions 39-10 last week, they are expected to test the Griffons.
The Leopards will also draw confidence from their 19-5 victory against the Pumas going into their clash against the Limpopo Blue Bulls. But the Limpopo Blue Bulls have the ability to create upsets when they find their form, and should not be written off.
The forward battle, in particular, is expected to be decisive as the teams look to gain ascendancy.
In Wellington, Boland will look to capitalise on the Golden Lions’ poor start to the season following their back-to-back defeats against the Free State and the Griffons respectively. However, Boland will have to hit the ground running to achieve this as this marks their first clash of the season.
The Lions, in particular, will have to tighten up their defence to keep alive hopes of registering their first victory of the season after leaking several tries in their first two matches.
