Day two of the Gauteng North Dunslaz Open being played in Pretoria’s Groenkloof Tennis Stadium on Wednesday saw most of the seeds progress, with sixth-seeded Niriantsa Rasolomanana the first to fall, 6-3 6-4 to unseeded Chanel Simmons.
Second-seed Tegan Edwards repeated her first endeavour, to win against Mia Ramiaramanana in straight sets, and is yet to concede a game in the tournament.
Top-seed Lizanne du Plessis was challenged when Chane Hines took the second set of their match, only to press through to a 6-1 4-6 6-1 victory.
Eighth-seed Minette Pienaar was the other seed to face a three-set challenge, but the extended play in the match forced a retirement from Ania van Rensburg, who also had to a play three set first match on Monday to progress to round two.
Du Plessis and Pienaar will both be weary after today’s play, and their encounter tomorrow will reward consistency and stamina with victory.
Seventh-seeded Bianca Swanepoel will be fresh for her next match, like Edwards, Swanepoel is yet to concede a game in the tournament, but her competitor Andrea Oates has also progressed fairly easily to round three.
