Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has been named Best Woman Athlete in Africa, after her heroics on the track in 2022.
The honour, which came from the Confederation of African Athletics, hailed Amusan for her outstanding performances where she beat the likes of 2020 Tokyo Olympic 1500 metres champion Faith Kipyegon and Ethiopian world record long-distance runner, Letesenbet Gidey for the third position.
The 25-year-old made a solid defence to her 100 m hurdles African crown in June in Mauritius finishing in a time of 12.57s.
Amusan also competed in the women’s 4 × 100 m relay and earned a second gold medal.
At the World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon in July, she completed the heats where she again bettered her African record with a time of 12.40s, improving by a further 0.01s.
In the semi-final, Amusan set a new world record of 12.12 seconds, breaking the previous best of 12.20s set by American Kendra Harrison in 2016.
