UJ Dominate Clash Against UKZN to Win ‘Quarter-Final’

by | Sep 22, 2019

It was all about the Orange Army at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds in Potchefstroom when UJ beat UKZN 6-0 to seal their semi-final place on day two of Varsity Women’s Football.

Keolebogile Putu got UJ off to a strong start when she scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game to put her team 2-0 up.

Thato Letsoso then stepped up to take a penalty and make it 3-0 before proceeding to smash the ball down-field into the net from just before halfway line, giving UJ a cosy 4-0 lead as they headed into the changerooms at half-time.

UKZN got the second half underway and tried their best to get into the swing of things, but the Orange Army stopped them in their tracks, sending them back into their own half every chance they got.

A blatant handball from UKZN saw UJ goalkeeper Dineo Magagula add her name to the list of goal scorers when she took a penalty to make it 5-0. Keolebogile Putuwas unfortunate not to get her hat-trick when her shot hit the crossbar, but Thato Letsoso fired the ball into the back of the net from the deflection to secure her hat-trick and secure UJ’s second win of the day 6-0.
