Nikita Robb enhanced her reputation as a professional surfer at the Drug Aware Pro, Margaret River, on the weekend, when she placed equal 13th in the women’s event in Western Australia.
Up against a trio of vastly experienced campaigners, the 18 year-old East Londoner struggled to find any waves of consequence and placed fourth in the heat.
In her rookie year on the women’s WQS after matriculating last year, Nikita was the only SA girl to reach the third round, after early exits by Durban’s Tammy Lee Smith, and East London’s Rosanne Hodge.
Nevertheless, her haul of R3,000 and 975 ratings points sees her maintain her 10th position on the latest WQS women’s rankings, and within striking distance of the top six, who will qualify for the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour.
The women’s event at Margaret River was won by Jacqueline Silva (Brazil) who defeated Jessi Miley-Dyer (Aus) in the final. Equal third were Margaret River local Melanie Redman-Carr, who lost to Silva in their semi, and fellow Aussie Samantha Cornish.
