Tarryn Chudleigh has secured another event win in the Pro Junior U20 Division of the Billabong Junior Series, at the second of five events held at the Bay of Plenty in Durban, which finished on Sunday.

While most of the competitors rode the one to 1.3 metre (3-4 foot) wind-affected right-handers off the pier at the Bay of Plenty, Pro Junior girls winner Tarryn opted for the left breaking waves in the ‘Bowl’, the same waves she rode to win the Billabong Girls Get Out There event earlier last September.

Tarryn was the event’s top seed, and now heads the ratings after two events, putting her in line to qualify as the season’s Pro Junior girl’s champion, who will receive an invitation to the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships in Australia in January 2008.

At 16 the most experienced surfer in the final, Tarryn took her second successive series event title for 2007 by performing powerful manoeuvres that sent sheets spray flying, to finish ahead of 13 year-olds Sarah Baum (Athlone Park), Bianca Buitendag (George) and Alice McGregor (East London, who turns 16 on Monday).

The Kustom award for the best performance by local surfers went to siblings Rudy and Heidi Palmboom.

The five-event R220 000 Billabong Junior Series started at St Mikes on the lower KZN South Coast and continues in Cape Town (May 17-20), then Victoria Bay in the Southern Cape (August 9-12), before wrapping up in the legendary surf Mecca of Jeffreys Bay (September 21-24), where the 11th annual series champions will be crowned.
