The Callie Human crowd was treated to a brilliant match in the fourth round clash between the UFS Kovsies and UWC, which the home side ran away with to win 92-46.

Kovsies started with a bang and an early lead, with interceptions by Ané Retief and Sikholiwe Mdletshe, and Lefébre Rademan again showing her quickness on the baseline and excellent shooting early in the first quarter. With about three minutes left in the quarter, UWC brought on fresh legs. With Khomotso Mamburu taking two of her own interceptions before the end of the quarter, Kovsies seemed well on their way leading 25 goals to 9.

The second quarter started with UWC converting their goals. Just over five minutes in, the first power play was called, which the visitors used well scoring three double pointers as the home team scored only two. The power play seemed to give UWC a boost as goal keeper, Esli Triegaardt, taking an excellent interception. She was followed shortly by Mdletshe and Rademan taking interceptions of their own. With both teams working hard the first half ended with Kovsies leading 48 goals to 25.

Kovsies started the second half with some changes as Mamburu moved to wing defence, Tanya Mostert moved to goal defence and Mdletshe moved to centre. The home team reached the 50-goal mark less than five minutes into the quarter as the mid-court worked hard to bring the ball down to the shooters to be converted. The UWC defenders, Triegaardt and Wilmedine Boer showed their talents putting the Kovsies shooters under pressure. With about three minutes left of the third quarter Gertriana Retief replaced her captain Alicia Puren at goal shooter. They ended the quarter with the score standing at 67-36.

For the last quarter Kovsies shifted again with Mostert moving back to centre, and Mdletshe and Mamburu moving to wing defence and goal defence respectively. Kovsies’ coaching staff must have said something right as the home side came out flying. As they dominated the second power play scoring 6 points while their opponents scored none. The attacking side of Kovsies were on fire with Rademan playing some exceptional netball and Gertriana Retief keeping her shooting statistics high.

On the opposite end of the court Ané Retief showed how to fight the UWC shooters taking multiple interceptions along with Mdletshe. In the final five minutes it things went only the way of Kovsies as UWC did not see much possession. As the crowd called for a century Kovsies accelerated, but ended a few goals shy winning the exciting encounter 92-46.
