South African Veronica Phewa scored twice for her American league team, FC Indiana, in their pre-season warm-up against Purdue University 3-0, in Lafayette, Indiana, the USA, while Laura Kane added one goal for a good start to the season.
FC Indiana never looked fully in synch, and coach Shek Borkowski admitted his side were not at their best: “We should have made more of our possession and chances. We lacked sharpness, and made life difficult for ourselves.”
“Some nervousness came in, but the most important part of it was that we defended well,” continued Borkowski. “The back four were quick to advance on to their opponents, and that made a big difference.”

“I have has some communication with Ghana, and will strongly consider any offer once its made to me,” said Borkowski in a phone interview, admitting an interest in managing Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria, if the opportunity presented itself.
It had been reported last weekend – before the Black Queens were defeated by Nigeria 2:0 that Borkowski was favored to replace Isaac Paha who was sacked by the FA two weeks ago. National women’s Under-20 team coach, Mumuni Gamel has temporarily taken charge of the technical duties of the senior team.
Following his success in the US, Borkowski is known to be keen on moving into international management and his candidacy is supported by the Black Queens captain Adjoa Bayor, who is familiar and impressed by his management success.
