Timely funding from the National Lottery sees South Africa host a women’s and men’s squash test series against the Netherlands, starting today in Welkom.
The Dutch squad, to be lead by Tommy Berden and Vanessa Atkinson, is expected to boast the European nation’s strongest men’s and women’s stars.
Atkinson who previously visited South Africa in 2004, has earned the world number 1 women’s player ranking, while Annaliese Naude, SA’s former top player and now a member of the Dutch squad, is ranked 14.
The 4-test series kick off today at Rovers in Welkom, followed by the Wanderers Club, Johannesburg on Wednesday 9th August, then Londt Park, Port Elizabeth on Saturday 12th August, and will draw to a finale in Cape Town on Monday 14th August.
Reports are that coaching and development clinics will be held at each of the venues.
