On 26 April 2023, women in sport media came together for an intimate networking lunch hosted by gsport, an online initiative aimed at promoting women’s sport in South Africa.

The lunch, held at Big Mouth restaurant in Sandton, was a celebration of the first quarter of The Year of Women’s Sport and an opportunity for attendees to toast to the freedom and opportunities that sport has provided for young people. With at least 20 women in attendance, the atmosphere was lively and filled with inspiring conversations and networking opportunities.

Kass Naidoo, founder of gsport, said “Our Women in Networking lunches started back in 2015, and this lunch was a great opportunity to celebrate the progress made in women’s sport and to encourage more women to get involved. Over the years, these lunches have also led to some exciting industry hook-ups to benefit women’s sport.”

The platform was an opportunity for rising stars to learn from experienced fellow women in the sport industry.

Khomotso Makgabutlane, a young and upcoming sport writer, attended her first-ever gsport lunch, saying: “Being in the presence of greatness and women in sport who are making their mark, shows me that anything is possible. Thank you so much to gsport for inviting me and giving me this opportunity to be here.”

The lunch also marked a celebration of gsport’s 20th #WorldCupWednesday activation since the launch of its The Year of Women’s Sport campaign on 7 December 2022. The campaign aims to keep the public updated on the preparations for these major showpiece events on our shores and to promote South Africa as World Cup country as the world’s eyes turn to us a global host venue.

The gsport team is excited to continue hosting these networking lunches that promote women in sport and provide opportunities for networking and building their brands within the industry.
