Woolley Takes Oude Molen MTB

Lara Woolley was the lady to beat in the women’s 60km race as just over 600 avid mountain bikers gathered at the Oude Molen Brandy Distillery in Elgin, Grabouw, in the early hours of Sunday morning (19 August 2012) to take on the Oude Molen Distillery MTB Challenge.

Woolley marked the MTB Challenge was an amazing experience. “I really enjoyed today, it was tough, but amazing. I’d definitely recommend this race to all riders.

“It is very tough, with really technical single track, but perfect if you want to challenge yourself. It is just so beautiful. I can’t wait to be back next year,” says Woolley, who completed the 60km route in a deserving time of 3 hours, 40 minutes and 12 seconds.

Photo: Peter KirkCherie Vale finished as runner-up in the main event ahead of Phelia Burger finished third, while Ariane Kleinhans was crowned Queen of the Mountain when she crossed the 15km mark first in the women’s 60km race.

Colleen Doyle completed the 35km women’s race in 1 hours, 55 minutes and 36 seconds, ahead of Nicole Erasmus in second, and Marie-Christin Kempt finishing third.

In the 10km distance Cherelle Leong finished first in a time of 37 minutes and 45 seconds, with Emma Leslie in second and Lelani Fernandez completing the podium.

The popular Bokomo Breakfast Zone provided riders with superior nourishment before the start, while after the race tired riders could regain their strength in the Rehidrat Sport Recovery Zone.

Mountain bikers are invited to ride the Oude Molen routes, just remember to purchase a MTO permit first.
