The
SPAR South Africa netball team’s preparations for the forthcoming Netball World
Championships to be played in Auckland, New Zealand, were given a boost on Thursday when
the Botswana Netball Association accepted the invitation by Netball South
Africa to train with the Proteas before the teams’ departure for New Zealand.
Botswana, who will join South
Africa and Malawi as the only three African
representatives at the World Championships, are widely regarded as one of the
rising forces in world netball and should be able to give the South Africans
much needed competition.
The training camp which will see the teams engaging in a number of
friendly matches will take place at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria from 7 – 12
October.
The Proteas are currently involved in a test series against Uganda at the University of Pretoria’s
Mamelodi Campus Indoor Sports Arena.
The home side will be looking to complete a whitewash against Uganda having
already beaten the spirited east Africans twice in the SPAR Challenge Netball
Test Series. In the first match the hosts narrowly won 41-35 and in the second
match the much improved local lasses were victorious with a clinical 49-27 win.
The third and final test of the series will be played tomorrow at 7pm at
the University of
Pretoria’s Mamelodi
Campus Indoor Sports Centre. Entrance is free to the public.
