Six Gun Grill Western Province, DP World Lions and Border walked away with the bragging rights after derby day triumphs in another enthralling day of CSA Women’s Provincial T20 Cup action across the country on Sunday, 23 October 2022.

Western Province’s (WP) Faye Tunnicliffe starred with a half-century in a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the Garden Route Badgers, while the Lions inflicted revenge on the Fidelity Titans, clawing back from a 50-over defeat to win by 14 runs in the shorter format.

In the other provincial clash, Border overcame Kei by 17 runs in a low-scoring affair at the Khaya Majola Oval in Mthatha.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins claimed a comfortable six wicket win over visitors North West Dragons in Durban, with Eastern Province edging Boland by 18 runs at Boland Park in the final match of the weekend.

In Cape Town, Province won the toss and sent the Badgers into bat before Momentum Proteas allrounder Nadine de Klerk (2/15) alongside captain Leah Jones (1/15) and Nosipho Vezi (1 / 27) led the charge to restrict the away side to 93/6 after 20 overs, with Mieke de Ridder (26) top-scoring with the bat.

WP made light work of the chase, with Tunnicliffe’s half-century spearheading an unbeaten 95-run first wicket partnership with Lara Goodall (42) as the home side wrapped up a commanding victory at the Six Gun Grill Newlands Stadium.

In Hammanskraal, the Lions bounced back from a disappointing One-Day Cup loss to the Titans with a 16-run success in the T20 clash at the Mandela Oval, with Palesa Mapoo recording a 34-ball 25 to propel the Johannesburg outfit to 100/8 after their allotted 20 overs.

It was then Samantha Schutte’s turn to play a leading role, as the right-armer claimed impressive figures of four for seven, well-supported by Kristie Thomson (2/9), F. Cowling (2/10) and Sarah Nettleton (2/23), to help bowl out the Titans for 84 in 19.1 overs.

Following the abandoned match on Saturday, Kei and Border were desperate for a full match today, as the visitors won the toss and chose to set the score before going onto finish on 79 all out in 19.5 overs.

With ball in hand, Border effectively restricted the Kei batter’s scoring opportunities, keeping them at bay on 62/8 at the end of the 20th over to clinch a 17-run win.

In Durban, Nondumiso Shangase (3/8) was the standout performer for the Dolphins as they limited the North West Dragons to 78/9 before Asamkele Kawu’s 22* off 19 balls guided the home side over the line with 4.3 overs remaining.

Eastern Province (EP) got their own back in an intriguing contest against hosts Boland as Monique Ferreira (38) stood tall with the bat to help EP post 105/5 before their bowlers picked up seven Boland wickets to leave the home side short of their target on 87/7 at the end of their innings.

The CSA Women’s Provincial One Day Cup and T20 Cup continue next weekend between 29 – 30 October with a jam-packed round of fixtures.
