The deadline for entries for South Africa’s most prestigious awards in journalism – Vodacom’s Journalist of the Year Awards – is on Wednesday this week.
The 2007 competition was launched on May 15, affording journalists the opportunity to showcase their talents in journalism and the various categories which they may specialise in. Since then, entries have been streaming in.
Entry to the competition is open to all South African journalists and is for material which has been published or broadcast between 1 May 2006 to 30 April 2007.
Countrywide addresses for delivery of the entries are available on the Vodacom website under “Sponsorships”.
This year for the Photography category, entries may be submitted in disc format along with proof of publication dates. Print entries may be submitted in any paper size format, whether A4 or larger.
This award is in its seventh year and has proved a resounding success with hundreds of South African journalists and photographers, serving the print, radio and electronic media, vying for top honours.
The competition begins with the Regional Finals, which will be held around the country, beginning on 30 August 2007, in which winners in the various sections will compete in the National Finals. The National Awards ceremony takes place on Sunday, 4 November 2007 at Vodaworld, Midrand, Gauteng.
The national winners will receive cash prizes of R10 000 and a certificate. The journalist whose work merits the Journalist of the Year Award will receive the grand prize of R100 000.
