The leaves on the jacarandas are turning yellow, and will soon be dropping off – a sure sign that spring is on its way. That means that you should be preparing for the SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge with Bokomo at Tuks Sportsgrounds on August 25.

But perhaps you think you can’t run for 10kms. Relax – walkers are also welcome to take part. In fact, there are many who think it is more fun to walk than to run.

Walkers have more opportunities to chat to their friends, or to the people around them, and they also have time to look around them and see the welcome signs of spring.

There is also a 5km Fun Run, which is open to females over the age of nine!

So, you could walk it with your daughters and spend some quality time with them, doing something you will both remember with pleasure.

If you decide to do the 5km Fun Run (or walk!) you still get all the goodies that people doing the 10km Challenge get – a free race t-shirt, a medal and a goodie bag.

You also qualify to win the lucky draw prize of vouchers giving you a year’s supply of groceries.

The best part is that you don’t really need to train for the 5km Fun Run. As long as you are reasonably fit, you should have a very enjoyable afternoon.

Just make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes, loose clothes, sunblock and a hat, and you are sure to have fun.

Entry forms for the Challenge are available from all SPAR, SUPERSPAR and KWIKSPAR stores, or online at the SPAR website. Contact the race office on 011 203 5399 for further information. Enjoy the Challenge!
