Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw became the youngest-ever winner of the London Marathon women’s race, as she claimed her first world marathon major title on Sunday, 02 October 2022.
The 23-year-old delivered in style after breaking away from Kenya’s defending champion, Joyciline Jepkosgei, to reach the finish line in 2:17:25.
This victory sees Yebualaw set the third fastest time ever in the women’s race, the fastest debut time in history and an Ethiopian record.
Jepkosgei came second in 2:18:07, while Yehualaw’s compatriot Alemu Megertu was third in a time of 2:18:32 to complete an African top 3.
