Actors and SPAR Run support Chrysalis

Pretoria, Thursday, 17th August 2006 – Calling all fans of the soapie “Sewende Laan”!  Come to the SPAR Women’s 10 km Challenge at the LC de Villiers sports grounds in Hatfield on Saturday August 26 and meet your favourite stars from this popular television series.

Nico Panagiotopoulos– who plays the role of George – will be the MC for the event, and Karien (Christi Panagiotopoulos) will be giving out autographs during the event.

The 10 km Challenge has become one of the most popular springtime events in Pretoria, and anyone who has ever been there will know that it is a day of fun for the whole family.

In addition to the 10 km Challenge, there is also a 5km Fun Run, and walkers are welcome to take part in both events.  Even baby strollers are welcome, and there is also a Kiddies Corner where children will be cared for and entertained, free of charge, so that mothers can have peace of mind while they take part in the race, knowing their children are safe and being cared for.

More than 8 000 women entered the Challenge last year, and the organisers are expecting an even bigger turnout this year.  There is plenty of parking at the venue, and this year’s race is flatter and easier than last year.

There are some wonderful prizes on offer, in addition to the cash prizes for the top runners and walkers.  There will be a lucky draw for a year of groceries worth R 12 000, SPAR vouchers and a midweek getaway are the prizes in the ‘Bring a Friend’ competition, and there are also prizes for the company that has the most entries, in the ‘Bring a Company’ competition.

The school that has the most entries will win R 5000. But remember, you have to be there to collect the prizes, so stay for the prize-giving – you won’t regret it!

And it’s all in a good cause – a portion of every entry fee goes to Chrysalis, a charity which provides a ‘finishing school’ for girls who have been physically or mentally traumatised.

They are taught a variety of things, from deportment and make up, to life skills, to enable them to become survivors rather than victims.

Entry forms are available from SUPERSPAR, SPAR and KWIKSPAR stores or online  – call 011 203 5399 to locate the participating SPAR closest to you.

Entries will also be accepted on race day! The first 8 000 will receive a free t-shirt on entry and the first 10 000 will receive a goodie bag.
