File photo: SuppliedThe 2012 Absa Women’s League National Championships is in full swing. The tournament has moved from the Galeshewe Stadium to the AR Abass Stadium in Kimberly, Northern Cape where all the group stage matches will be played.

Day Two was not a good day at the office for the hosts, who went down four goals to one (4-1) to North West, who now top the Group A with six points following their victory on Day 1. Northern Cape’s troubles started when they were left one player down after Laurel Diergaardt was red carded following a second bookable offence in the 35 th minute. This was the first red card of the tournament.

A minute later the flood gates opened – and North West cruised to victory with goals from Palesa Mvala (her fourth of the tournament), Keitumetse Mothobi and a double strike by captain Tokailwe Tsalaemang.

Northern Cape got their consolation goal from Meliza Kruger – her second of the tournament.

Gauteng broke no sweat in their four nil (4-0) win over Mpumalanga – goals scored by Mavhungu Manyanya, Kgomotso Pule and a brace from Agnes Manzini. Gauteng and Northern Cape have three points each.

The Western Cape and Mpumalanga are winless – but the Cape side has played one match less.

Sthembile Shange’s two first half goals helped KwaZulu Natal rise to the summit of Group B with a two one (2-1) victory over Eastern Cape, whose goal came from Sandisiwe Nohayi.

Limpopo and Free State were deadlocked at two goals each (2-2), leaving them tied in second place. Limpopo looked en route to collecting maximum points after taking a two nil lead with goals from Dumisani Hlongwane and Livhuwani Mukwevho.

But the Free Staters fought back gallantly to share the spoils in the final minutes of the match through captain Shiwe Nogwanya and second half substitute Dimakatso Monamela.
