Favourites to win the 2008 Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe women’s title, Alexa Lombard and Abbey Miedema finished the first day’s action in pole position, after posting a lead of more than 10 minutes over their closest competitors.
Paddling in good water conditions following the release of water from upstream dams, the Lombard / Miedema pair finished in 28th position overall, a mere 30 minutes behind the first-stage men’s record breaking pair of Martin Dreyer and Michaeel Mbanjwa.
Hot contenders Laura Thompson and Robyn Kime finished in a strong second position, seven minutes ahead of third-placed pair Debbie Germiquet and Hilary Jean Pitchford.
