Former South African tennis player, Annette du Plooy, received the ITF Award for Services to the Game during the Tuks International (ITF $60,000 World Tennis Tour) at TuksTennis, University of Pretoria on Sunday, 3 April 2022.
During the mid-1960s, du Plooy was ranked in the top ten female globally and in 1966 she won the French Open Mixed Doubles title with Frew McMillan, defeating Ann Haydon-Jones and Clark Graebner in three sets.
In 1972, her coaching career began after completing coaching courses offered through LTA while living in England. She completed further coaching certificates under Reeve Hudson and quickly reached Professional Coaching Level.
The 78-year-old successfully went on to coach players individually and managed national teams at international events.
Du Plooy travelled abroad with various junior teams which includes players like Joannette Kruger, Mariaan de Swart, Cindy Summers, Gaynor Ford and many more. She travelled with Elna Reinach who reached a world ranking of 27.
Currently, du Plooy is an active coach in good standing and continues to manage tennis within her province, serving as a Provincial Coaches Chairperson, involved in coach mentoring and previously volunteered her time to projects within rural and township communities. She has extensive experience as tournament director at local and international level.
