The 19-year old cut 0.02 seconds from the time she had set earlier, storming into in the final with a time of 29.80.

Tatjana Schoenmaker came in second behind van Niekerk in 30.94, while Kaylene Corbett had a time of 31.43 to see the trio all head into in the 50m breaststroke final.
It’s another GAMES RECORD for Van Niekerk, who cuts 0.02 seconds from her earlier record as she strokes fastest into the Women’s 50m Breaststroke final in 29.80 seconds.

Speaking after the race, she said:
“I’m just so happy I got to break it twice in a day and then we’ll see, hopefully I can break it again tomorrow night.”
