Arsenal lifted their sixth English League Cup title, after securing a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, 5 March 2023.
This is the first trophy Arsenal have won in four years, however, a record sixth time they have won the League Cup, as they did so in front of a record crowd of 19 000 in London.
Chelsea got off to a stellar start in the match, after Sam Kerr’s header in the second minute into action.
However, the game changed as Arsenal’s striker Stina Blackstenius and captain Kim Little comfortably placed their team in the lead after they each scored a goal within 24 minutes.
Just before the half-time break, Arsenal secured their third netter, when the ball deflected off Chelsea player, Niamh Charles, from a corner-kick.
In the second half, Chelsea’s Manager, Emma Hayes, opted to make tactical changes, which unfortunately, did not work in their favour.
This was a massive victory for Arsenal as the team ended their unlucky streak of no silverware.
Arsenal’s manager, Jason Eidevall, told BBC One: “These are the games we want to play. To get results creates belief. It was really important to get that reward and now we can be filled with belief for all the games going forward.”
