South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai claimed her first Australian Open crown at the Victorian Golf Club on Sunday, 4 December 2022.
Buhai beat Korea’s Jayai Shin by carding a one-over-par 73 to win the title by one shot.
The world No.28 became the first South African woman to claim the coveted crown.
This is Buhai’s second Open Championship this year, having won the Women’s British Open in August. She is now the first player since 2011, to win both the AIG Women’s Open and Australian Open title in the same year.

Having carded four birdies and five bogeys, this is what Buhai had to say on her victory: “It’s the cherry on the top I guess, sorry it just hit me.
“And obviously at the last minute, to have my husband Dave on the bag, it’s very special to be able to celebrate together.
“He was good today. It was a bit easier for him being inside the ropes than outside the ropes. You’re a little bit more in control.
“Got lots of friends and family here, it’s very cool,” she concluded.
At the 2022 Momentum gsport awards, Buhai was recognised for her outstanding achievements as she received the Ministerial Recognition of Excellence accolade.
